FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What are your fees?

My fee for a 50 minute session is $115.  I also offer 75 minute sessions for couples who desire or need more time, the fee for 75 minutes is $175.  My fee is the same for the initial session, and for individual or couples therapy.

2.  Do you accept insurance?

I do not, however, I can offer you a superbill, which is a receipt for the services you receive.  If you are covered by PPO health insurance, you may be able to submit this receipt to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health benefits?
  • What is my deductible per calendar year, and has it been met?
  • How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
  • How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?
  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?
  • My therapist is a registered intern.  Will her licensed supervisor be able to sign the superbill for billing purposes?

Payment for my services is required in full at each session.  Please be aware, many insurance panels won't reimburse you for couples therapy or relationship issues.

3. Does couples therapy really work?

While neither I nor any other therapist can make an absolute guarantee to the outcome of therapy, I can speak from my experience with couples and my approach to working with couples.  I use a type of therapy called Emotionally Focused Therapy, or EFT.  This methodology has been well researched and validated by 20 years of empirical research, with 90% of couples treated with EFT reporting significant improvement in their relationships.  If both partners come to therapy willing to try, it bodes well for the outcome of therapy.  I love helping couples re-connect and heal past wounds in their relationship, and strongly believe in the work I do.

4.  My partner and I are not married.  Can we receive couples therapy?

Yes.  Many of my client are not married and choose to attend couples therapy, be it for overall relationship enhancement, to solve a specific problem, or for pre-marital counseling.  I see clients in same-sex relationships and heterosexual relationships, married or unmarried, living together and living apart.

5.  How long will therapy last?

Therapy is not an infinite commitment, and especially with couples, I believe therapy can and should be more short term.  The typical length of therapy is 12-20 sessions, and I can generally give you an accurate idea of the length of treatment after the first few sessions.  Many of my clients report a sense of relief or noticed improvements after even the first session.

6.  How often will we meet?

Generally, I will meet with you once a week for 50 minutes on the same day and time.  I reserve your session time just for you.  Some couples desire more time per week and I can offer 75 minute sessions as well.  Toward the end of therapy, we might consider decreasing the frequency in which we meet.  You are able to end therapy at any time and take the gained knowledge and insight with you, and are always free to return to see me at any time in the future.
